Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl claims he noticed the Chelsea team look drained of confidence during their midweek defeat in the Champions League.

Southampton are currently preparing to host Chelsea tomorrow at St Mary’s in the Premier League.

Unfortunately, the visitors will travel to the South Coast off the back of a dreadful week.

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues were beaten 4-1 last weekend at home to Brentford in the league. Also, they suffered a 3-1 home loss on Wednesday night against Real Madrid in the first leg of a Champions League quarter-final.

Interestingly, Southampton manager Hasenhuttl has said in his pre-match press conference that he could really feel Chelsea’s troubles against Madrid.

“First half the way they [Chelsea] played isn’t good enough for the Champions League. Thomas [Tuchel] knows this. The team also looked like they were affected by the home loss to Brentford. You could feel it. Not so confident with everything they do,” Hasenhuttl said.

Chelsea need to repeat history

Chelsea’s last league game against Southampton back in October came off the back of back-to-back defeats.

Tuchel’s men prevailed 3-1 winners against the Saints on that occasion, so hopefully can bounce back in a similar fashion this Saturday.

Hasenhuttl’s spot on that the Chelsea group looked like they were struggling on the pitch against Madrid.

It’s suddenly become a massive fixture in the team’s season tomorrow, so it’s time for the big players to step up during a difficult period.

A lot of focus in the past couple of months has been on the various cup competitions, but there’s still games that need to be win to keep the team third in the league table.
