Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is constantly enhancing its features to provide users with an optimal communication experience, given its widespread use for daily interactions by millions worldwide.
Recent updates have included AI-related features such as stickers and chatbots, though these have been limited to beta versions of the app and not accessible to all users. In September, reports from Android Police indicated the introduction of AI-powered image editing tools in the beta versions as well.
In the most recent beta release for Android (v2.24.7.13), WhatsApp has unveiled new editing options within the photo editor interface, including Backdrop, Restyle, and Expand functionalities.
According to Android Police, these features become available when a user is composing a status update or sharing an image with others.
A new sparkle icon has been incorporated into the top row of editing options, alongside existing basic editing tools. Tapping on this icon reveals the three new options: Backdrop, Restyle, and Expand.
The Backdrop feature allows users to overlay text to alter the background of the photo, while Restyle enables overall image adjustments, and Expand facilitates image enlargement.
As these features are currently limited to beta versions, their final appearance and official release date remain uncertain. However, they represent yet another step towards enhancing the photo editing capabilities within WhatsApp, offering users greater flexibility in expressing themselves visually.
