‘Will come early’: Tuchel names the two Chelsea players who will be doing extra training in pre-season to get fit
Thomas Tuchel claims Chelsea duo Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ben Chilwell will return early in pre-season to help get them fit.
Chilwell, 25, is a Blues wing-back that’s been unavailable for months since picking up a knee problem last November. It’s great to see he’s returned to first-team training this week with the rest of the squad, though.
Meanwhile, 21-year-old winger Hudson-Odoi has had an Achilles problem that’s kept him out since March. He’s been photographed on the training pitches but is yet to link up with his teammates again.
Tuchel shared in Wednesday’s press conference that the English duo will aim to return in time for next season. This includes doing extra this summer in pre-season and reporting early for individual work.
“He (Hudson-Odoi) dropped out of the squad from one day to another more or less. He’s still in individual training, progressing, but not in team training. He will come early like Ben Chilwell in pre-season to start an individual programme to be back on 2 July with team training,” Tuchel said.
Hudson-Odoi and Chilwell returns
It’ll be great to have the aforementioned duo back again next year, especially as it’s still unclear on when the takeover is completed and the club will be able to enter the transfer market.
The extra commitment of work in pre-season will help the players be ready for the 2022/23 campaign.
For certain, Chilwell’s someone most expect will walk back into the XI when fit. He’s been a real loss at times on the wing for his side.
Hudson-Odoi’s role in the squad remains a little unclear due to spells in and out of the side, with his form often quite inconsistent. However, people still forget he’s only 21.
