Thomas Tuchel can save Todd Boehly £34m transfer dilemma by unleashing secret Chelsea weapon
helsea are fast-approaching one of the club’s most important transfer windows in recent times, but Thomas Tuchel can save a few quid with an option closer to home
Thomas Tuchel could save Todd Boehly as much as £34 million in the upcoming transfer window by unleashing Chelsea’s secret weapon next season. The LA Dodgers owner, who has agreed to a £4.25billion deal to buy the west London club, is expected to ‘push for A-list signings’ to mark a new era at Stamford Bridge, according to the MailOnline.
And, by handing Callum Hudson-Odoi a new lease of life in west London, the Blues can unlock a prolific open-play creator. The 21-year-old, who has missed a vast majority of Chelsea’s final fixtures this season through injury, rubs shoulders with the likes of Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez.
The Cobham graduate has featured just 28 times for Chelsea this season, whereby many of which have been either out of the winger’s natural position or off the bench. Despite Hudson-Odoi’s small sample size, he’s directly contributed towards nine goals and has quickly slipped under the radar as one of the league’s most fruit-bearing playmakers.
Hudson-Odoi, who has been valued at around £34m by CIES Football Observatory, has tallied 0.23 expected assists per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season. Jadon Sancho and Philippe Coutinho also share the stage with the former England youth international.
At Chelsea, only Reece James has recorded a greater expected assists per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season with Hudson-Odoi stepping up as the club’s most prolific creator. Though, the latter has not featured for Tuchel’s side since the Blues’ 3-2 win over Luton Town in the FA Cup fifth round back in March.
He picked up an Achilles injury followed by an issue with his lower back which has kept him out of action for two months. And, now, the Chelsea boss has confirmed that Hudson-Odoi will not be available until pre-season commences in the summer.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the west London side’s clash against Leicester City, Tuchel said on Hudson-Odoi: “He dropped out of the squad from one day to the other, more or less. Still, in individual training, progressing but not in team training. He will come early in pre-season like Chilwell to start a programme to be back on July 2 with team training.”
