Things fall into place for Callum Hudson-Odoi to play for Ghana as soon as this year

Callum Hudson-Odoi is considering switching his international allegiance to Ghana ahead of the World Cup in Qatar this winter, according to a story in the Evening Standard.

We’ve heard whispers of this before, but it now seems more likely than ever, for several reasons.

Firstly, Ghana have now assured their place at the tournament after beating Nigeria in a playoff.

Secondly, the time since CHO’s England appearances has grown greater, and his chances of getting more caps for his country has decreased. He has 3 senior caps, but none since the end of 2019. All of them came before he turned 21, so he can switch international allegiance without the need for an appeal.

If the question is whether to go and play with Ghana at the World Cup, or stay at home in England and potentially never play internationally again given the constant flow of talent that Gareth Southgate’s team has bubbling up, it seems an easy choice to us.
