Chelsea has received a boost as Thomas Tuchel opted not to pursue a move for Bayern Munich’s Edson Alvarez.
According to AS in Spain, Chelsea is still interested in signing the Mexico international this summer after coming close to doing so in September.
Mauricio Pochettino was expected to face competition from Bayern Munich for the services of Ajax’s No.4.
Chelsea will now make bid for £67m man who is “better than Haaland”
Chelsea, on the other hand, has received a boost in their pursuit of Edson Alvarez.
What is the backstory?
According to Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich will not enter the battle to sign Alvarez, who is worth €50 million (£43 million), because Tuchel has other intentions to bolster his central midfield department.
The German club is certainly a European powerhouse, and they might have offered the 25-year-old the option to play in the Champions League next season, something Chelsea cannot.
Many believed Tuchel was in a better position than Pochettino to acquire Alvarez, but if Plettenburg of Sky Sports Germany is to be believed, a significant opponent for his signature has withdrawn.
Todd Boehly stated that Edson Alvarez would be brought to Chelsea.
Interestingly, Todd Boehly pledged to pursue Alvarez again once his transfer to West London fell through in 2022.
“Chelsea have been jumping from target to target to target,” CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs told The Football Terrace. Not to mention, Todd Boehly promised Edson Alvarez that they would return for him. Even though Ajax do not want to sell in the middle of the season, they have not returned.”
While Chelsea did not make another bid in January, perhaps Boehly was simply respecting Ajax’s refusal to sell in the middle of the season, implying that interest could be revived this summer.
Alvarez looks to be quite interested in the move, telling De Telegraaf that he was sad to miss out on a move to Chelsea.
Why Chelsea Should Start Using David Datro Fofana
“I mourned for one day and then demonstrated that I am a strong person,” stated the Ajax coach. Of course, the disappointment lingered, but I believe that everything happens for a reason. Perhaps it wasn’t the proper time.”
Keep an eye on the situation, as Alvarez could finally join Chelsea this summer.
