There was chaos in Kaduna on Friday as police intervened to disband a procession organized by members of the banned Islamic Movement of Nigeria, IMN, also known as Shiites, as part of their activities to commemorate the International Quds Day.
EPRODITY observed that IMN members had gathered near the Katsina roundabout along Ahmadu Bello Way before the police arrived to prevent any potential disturbance of public order.
The procession caused panic and anxiety among residents, especially those with shops along Ahmadu Bello Way, leading many to shut down their businesses fearing involvement in any ensuing conflict.
According to the police, the IMN has been outlawed by the Federal Government, rendering their procession illegal.
ASP Mansir Hassan, spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, stated that IMN members brandished dangerous weapons during the morning procession and initiated attacks on innocent residents. He added that when the police attempted to disperse them, they retaliated with violence, resulting in injuries to some officers.
Furthermore, Hassan noted that several individuals in possession of dangerous weapons have been apprehended and will face legal charges following a thorough investigation.
