Nollywood Icon Amaechi Muonagor Passes Away After Battle with Kidney Failure
Renowned veteran actor of the Nigerian film industry, Amaechi Muonagor, has tragically passed away at the age of 62 following a prolonged struggle with illness.
The sad news was shared by social commentator Morris Monye via his social media platform on Sunday, revealing that Muonagor had succumbed to complications arising from kidney failure, for which he had been undergoing dialysis treatment.
His untimely demise comes just days after a video circulated online in which he appealed for financial assistance to facilitate a kidney transplant, underscoring the severity of his health condition.
Expressing profound sorrow over Muonagor’s passing, Monye reflected on the actor’s immense talent and impactful presence on the screens, noting the collective efforts made to support his quest for medical treatment, including potential treatment options abroad.
He emphasized the sobering reality of Muonagor’s death as a poignant reminder of the pressing need for improved healthcare infrastructure in the country.
Born on August 20, 1962, in Idemili, Anambra State, Muonagor made significant contributions to the Nigerian entertainment industry as both an actor and a producer. His remarkable talent garnered him a nomination for the Best Actor in a Comedy award at the AMVCA 2017.
After completing his youth service in 1989, Muonagor ventured into acting, leaving his position at the News Agency of Nigeria to pursue his passion. He made his debut on the big screen portraying the character Akunatakasi in the Nigerian film “Taboo 1” in the early years of his career.
