Nnamdi Kanu Appeals for Bail Restoration: Challenges Bail Revocation in Federal High Court.

Nnamdi Kanu Appeals for Bail Restoration: Challenges Bail Revocation in Federal High Court.

The beleaguered leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has appealed to the Federal High Court to reinstate the bail previously granted to him. He emphasized that contrary to the ruling resulting in the revocation of his bail, he did not abscond.

Recalling that on April 25, 2017, the Federal High Court in Abuja granted bail to the IPOB leader, which was subsequently revoked, and a bench warrant issued for his arrest on grounds of bail violation. Kanu, however, refuted the allegation, asserting that he left Nigeria when security agents attacked his residence in Afaraukwu, Abia State.

Kanu’s lead counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, filed a motion of notice before the Abuja Federal High Court, seeking to set aside the bail revocation due to misrepresentation. The motion highlighted Kanu’s situation, emphasizing his fleeing Nigeria for self-preservation after the security breach at his home.

Furthermore, the jurisdiction of the court to try Kanu, his bail, and the circumstances of his extradition were challenged up to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court determined that Kanu’s bail should not have been revoked, considering the circumstances that led to his flight to secure his safety.

Prince Emmanuel Kanu, brother to the IPOB leader, submitted an affidavit in support of the motion for the restoration of Kanu’s bail.
