Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki expressed surprise at the prospect of working with two deputy governors during his eight-year tenure. This statement was made during the inauguration of Omobayo Marvellous Godwins as the new deputy governor, following the impeachment of Philip Shaibu by the Edo State House of Assembly on April 8, 2024.
Governor Obaseki, citing Proverb 16:9, emphasized that government cannot afford a vacuum, hence the appointment of a new deputy governor. He reflected on the journey since taking office in 2016, expressing his unexpected situation of needing two deputies before the end of his term.
Acknowledging the constitutional role of the legislative arm in providing checks and balances, Governor Obaseki highlighted the necessity of the current circumstances. He praised Omobayo Marvellous as a capable professional, whose appointment symbolizes the administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and inclusivity.
Governor Obaseki affirmed his intention to collaborate closely with the new deputy governor in the remaining months to fulfill the administration’s promises for the benefit of the state’s people.
