- Mourinho still a free agent after leaving Roma in January
- Eager to return to management
- Has been linked with Chelsea and Newcastle
WHAT HAPPENED?
The seasoned Portuguese coach, renowned for his tactical acumen and penchant for silverware, has recently declared his readiness for his next managerial challenge amidst swirling rumours linking him to clubs like Chelsea and Newcastle United. His managerial journey is a tale of triumphs, setbacks, and unyielding ambition.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Mourinho’s most recent stint with AS Roma, however, ended abruptly when he was relieved of his duties by the club’s owners, Dan and Ryan Friedkin, in January 2024. Roma languished in ninth place in the Serie A standings at the time of his departure, marking a disappointing chapter in Mourinho’s storied career. And within a couple of months, Mourinho is ready again to embark on a new journey.
WHAT MOURINHO SAID
In an interview with Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho left no room for doubt regarding his eagerness to return to the touchline. He said: “I’m ready to start again. I don’t need to rest or think as usually happens… I’m really ready. I don’t need to rest or think as usually happens – I’m ready. I feel strong and good, I’m really ready but I don’t want to make the wrong choice. I have to be patient. My objective is to start again next summer.”
WHAT NEXT?
With clubs like Chelsea and Newcastle United reportedly in the mix, Mourinho’s return to the Premier League remains a tantalizing prospect. Both clubs are seeking stability and success and Mourinho’s wealth of experience and proven ability to deliver results could be handy.
