The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has expressed regret to Nigerians for his remarks regarding the habit of leaving freezers and air conditioners running unnecessarily.
During a recent ministerial press briefing, Adelabu criticized the behavior of individuals who leave these appliances on while not at home, attributing it to a lack of awareness about managing power consumption, which he suggested is due to its affordability.
In a subsequent appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Adelabu clarified that his comments were not meant to insult anyone. He explained that his remarks were intended as advice on energy consumption management to help reduce energy bills, particularly for those experiencing increased tariffs. He acknowledged that his example involving freezers might have offended some Nigerians and offered apologies, emphasizing that it was not his intention to insult anyone but rather to highlight the need for change in the energy sector. Adelabu also clarified that his comments on leaving air conditioners on while not in the room were meant in a light-hearted manner and were not intended as an insult. He concluded by asking for forgiveness from those who felt offended, expressing his commitment to improving the energy sector in Nigeria.
