Chelsea have been linked with a move for former Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, who is interested in signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Mauricio Pochettino is likely to take over as manager at Stamford Bridge in the summer, and he has already begun making transfer moves. According to Fichajes, the 51-year-old has now requested that Chelsea buy Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Since joining Tottenham, the Denmark international has been a quality player, and he could prove to be a quality signing for Chelsea. Chelsea’s central midfield has to be strengthened in terms of both quality and depth. And the Spurs midfielder would be an excellent choice for them.
Mateo Kovacic has been linked with a summer departure, and N’Golo Kante’s contract will expire in the summer. Chelsea will undoubtedly have to enter the transfer market to sign quality midfielders. As a result, Hojbjerg has emerged as a realistic option for the Blues.
The Tottenham midfielder has shown himself at clubs such as Southampton throughout the years. He will undoubtedly have an immediate impression at Stamford Bridge. However, Spurs are unlikely to sanction his exit to a direct London rival anytime soon.
Hojbjerg is a vital player for Tottenham, and the North London club will not want to lose him anytime soon. It remains to be seen whether Chelsea would make a formal offer for the Danish international at the end of the season.
During the January transfer window, the Blues paid a club-record fee for World Cup winner Enzo Fernandes. But they must look for a good match for him right away. Hojbjerg, who is valued at €45 million, can protect the back four and recycle possession from a deeper role.
Next season, he may have forged a strong team with Enzo Fernandez. Spurs, on the other hand, are unlikely to entertain Chelsea’s bid for the 27-year-old, let alone for €45 million. Meanwhile, Tottenham will need to get a competent manager this summer.
They are yet to name a long-term successor to Antonio Conte. Pochettino has been linked with a return to Tottenham Hotspur. However, it appears that the Argentine is now on his way to Stamford Bridge. It will be intriguing to watch whether Chelsea responds to Pochettino’s request for Hojbjerg.
