At the Mestella stadium, Vinicius was the focus of racism and abuse from fans. The second-half culprits were identified by the Real Madrid starlet. Referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea alerted stadium staff, who begged for the racist shouts to stop, and the game was stopped for a while.
According to Scroll, the referee noted in his post-game report that a supporter chanted “monkey, monkey” at Vinicius of Real Madrid.
Deep into the second half’s stoppage time, the matter came to a head. After a VAR check, the Brazilian was dismissed for striking Valencia forward Hugo Duro in the face. Only after Duro had the Brazilian in a headlock and the Valencia players had gotten in his face. The latter received no consequences for his acts.
