Former Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman is set to return to the Dutch national team and replace Louis van Gaal once the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has concluded.
The two parties have already reached an agreement, which will see Koeman be in charge of the Netherlands until the 2026 World Cup.
“I’m looking forward to this new spell,” said Koeman.
“A little over a year and a half ago, I didn’t leave the Dutch national team out of dissatisfaction. The results were good. We’ll continue down that path soon. That’s for sure for me.”
A couple of days ago, current Netherlands head coach Van Gaal revealed that he is currently battling prostate cancer.
Koeman left the Dutch national team in August 2020 to take over at Barcelona, who fired him earlier this season following some disappointing results.
