The Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi, has restated his allegiance to the party, dispelling rumors of an impending departure. Despite the internal turmoil within the party, Obi affirmed his commitment to remaining with the party for the foreseeable future.
Furthermore, he asserted that he harbors no ambitions of becoming Nigeria’s President at any point in his life. These remarks were made during an interaction with journalists in Bauchi on Sunday, shortly after inaugurating a hand pump for water supply in the Sabon Layi community, a suburb of Bauchi metropolis.
Obi emphasized, “I am not contemplating 2027; my current focus is on enhancing the living standards and welfare of Nigerians. At this juncture, discussions about politics should take a back seat, with the primary focus being on fostering good governance for the betterment of Nigeria.”
Regarding the internal discord within the opposition party, the former Anambra governor remarked, “The leadership discord within the LP is not unprecedented; it is an internal issue that will be resolved amicably within the party. I have never entertained the thought of leaving the LP; my stance has always been in favor of peace, unity, and cooperation. I perceive no distinction between individuals; I consistently strive to act in accordance with what is right.”
He added, “This is why I chose to personally attend this event instead of delegating it to someone else.”
