Monday Osazuwa, a dispatch rider, made startling revelations before the Special Offences Court in Lagos on Friday.
He recounted how Godwin Emefiele, the former Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, instructed him on multiple occasions to collect $3 million in cash installments. Osazuwa, who worked at Zenith Bank since 2001 before joining the CBN in 2014 as a contract staff member, detailed his journey. Initially a dispatch rider, he later became a senior supervisor responsible for documenting and filing in the CBN Governor’s office in Lagos.
Osazuwa mentioned delivering money to Emefiele’s residence in Ikoyi, with the highest amount being $1 million, followed by $850,000, $750,000, and $400,000 in subsequent transactions. Despite his loyalty, Osazuwa claimed he never received any compensation for his services.
Emefiele was arraigned by the EFCC on April 8, facing 23 counts related to abuse of office, allegedly involving $4.5 billion and N2.8 billion. Justice Oshodi granted Emefiele bail worth N50 million. Emefiele had been suspended by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in June of the previous year.
