Previous remarks by Harry Kane on “great friend” Mauricio Pochettino and his coaching style will be music to the ears of the Chelsea players ahead of his upcoming hiring.
There aren’t many people in football who dislike Mauricio Pochettino, the new head coach of Chelsea.
Ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter set for SHOCK appointment
The Argentine, who is set to arrive in London this week to sign a three-year contract with Chelsea, has been out of work since being released by Paris Saint-Germain last year. Pochettino has subsequently received several offers to return to management, but he is waiting for the right one. Pochettino has agreed to become the club’s new head coach at the end of the season, following Graham Potter’s sacking in April, after weeks of productive conversations with Chelsea.
The club sees Pochettino as the ideal option to turn around Chelsea’s fortunes on the pitch after a disappointing season this season. The 51-year-old will have to rely on his man-management skills to instill some much-needed confidence in the group in time for next season.
Interim head coach Frank Lampard has commented about the squad’s current lack of confidence and self-belief. Following Chelsea’s loss to Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final last month, Lampard lamented his team’s lack of belief and confidence.
“There was a lot for us,” Lampard explained. “As good as they are, offensively such a strong team, there’s a little bit of a lack of belief in us when we have the ball.” “I believe our players need to realize how good they are.”
Chelsea has some extremely gifted players who are either world-class already or on their approach to becoming such. However, several of them have underperformed this season. The team requires structure, continuity, and stability, which Pochettino will presumably provide when he is announced. Those things, though, will take time.
During his five-year time at Tottenham Hotspur, Pochettino managed to achieve all three of those goals. He built something very amazing at Tottenham, and he had a special affinity and bond with several of his players, especially Harry Kane.
Kane told the Evening Standard in June 2021, “We were so close to winning it [the Champions League] with Mauricio.” I’d love to see him win it [as a member of Paris Saint-Germain]. We had a fantastic friendship. He is a wonderful person and a wonderful friend.”
“He was the boss, the leader, the one who set the standards in how we played and trained,” Kane continued. So friendship would never interfere with what he performed on the football pitch. But we became friends because we did and spoke about topics other than sport.”
Pochettino and his backroom team – all of whom are crucial to how he operates at a football club – will be seeking to do the same with his new crop of players at Stamford Bridge. It’s critical because, as Lampard stated, there’s a lack of self-belief among the players, which affects how they perform on the pitch. Football is a sport that is heavily impacted by confidence.
Why the delay in announcing Pochettino?
According to Football. London, the little delay in confirming Pochettino as Chelsea’s new head coach is nothing to be concerned about. There are only a few formalities left before Pochettino officially takes charge at Stamford Bridge at the end of the season.
Why Chelsea Should Start Using David Datro Fofana as Their Designated Striker
After negotiating a deal over the weekend, the Argentine is scheduled to be in London this week to sign a three-year contract with the Blues. Lampard, on the other hand, will remain in command until the end of the season, with Pochettino having the summer to work with his Chelsea group in preparation for the 2023/24 season.
