Electricity workers urge Tinubu to rescind exorbitant tariff increase.

We regret voting Tinubu – Northern elders reveal plans for 2027

The Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to overturn the 245 percent electricity price hike imposed by electricity distribution companies. Nnamdi Ajibo, the National Secretary of the Association, conveyed this message in a statement on Monday, in response to the tariff increase affecting Band A electricity consumers.

Last week, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission sanctioned a tariff adjustment for Band A customers. In response, the SSAEAC criticized the government’s lack of meaningful action in the power sector, deeming such a substantial tariff increase as insensitive and unacceptable.

The Association emphasized that Tinubu’s government cannot fulfill all its renewed hope agendas within a single year. They urged the government to reverse the unsuccessful privatization of the power sector and to consider the adverse impact of high exchange rates on the purchasing power of ordinary citizens.

Furthermore, they highlighted the importance of subsidizing essential services such as electricity and urged the government to revert the entire privatization process urgently. They advocated for creating a conducive environment for businesses to thrive before seeking new management for the sector.
