Renowned singer David Adeleke, famously known as Davido, attributes the global success of the current generation of Nigerian artists to the pioneering efforts of Afrobeats legends like 2Baba, D’banj, and P-Square.
In the latest episode of The Bridge Show, Davido emphasized the significance of sacrifices made by himself and his peers, highlighting that their efforts have paved the way for future generations to thrive even further.
Recalling his experience upon signing with an international record label in 2016, Davido noted the initial challenge of proving his superstar status to the label, despite already being a household name in Africa.
He explained, “When we sign record deals overseas, they often underestimate our stature back home. I came directly from performing at a 60,000-capacity stadium in Mali to sign the deal. Yet, they expected me to start from scratch. I refused to start over because we are already established. However, it takes time for them to realize the sacrifices we are making now.”
Davido emphasized the enduring impact of the sacrifices made by predecessors like D’banj, P-Square, and 2Face, underscoring that their contributions laid the foundation for the current generation’s success. He expressed optimism that the next generation of Nigerian artists will surpass them, as the music industry continues to evolve and expand.
