Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku has provided an encouraging update on his recovery from injury through an Instagram post. The 25-year-old forward has been sidelined for the entire season so far due to a knee injury sustained in the final pre-season game.

Nkunku had made an impressive start for his new team during the American tour but was ruled out for approximately four months just before making his competitive debut. His absence has posed challenges for manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has had to make do without one of his key attacking players.

In Nkunku’s absence, Pochettino has had to rely on Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher in forward positions, which doesn’t necessarily align with their playing styles. Additionally, the team faced further difficulties when 19-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka, who had temporarily filled Nkunku’s role, also suffered a knee injury. Despite the arrival of Cole Palmer from Manchester City, he has yet to start a game for Chelsea and has limited Premier League experience.

However, as Chelsea enters a crucial period of fixtures following a challenging start to the season, Nkunku has provided an update on his progress. On social media, the former Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig player shared images of himself engaging in various exercises, including pool work and gym workouts. Although his expected return date is at least in November, a more realistic comeback could be in December, and it might extend into 2024 before he reaches full match fitness.

Nkunku faced similar injury setbacks last season, missing the World Cup with the French national team during the winter but later returning to domestic action in Germany to become the league’s top scorer. Chelsea is hopeful that he can replicate his impact for them once he regains full fitness, as they continue to miss his creative spark on the field.
