Rafael van der Vaart was keen for Tottenham Hotspur to sign Hakim Ziyech before he moved to Chelsea and even sent a private message to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
The Daily Star quoted former Tottenham star Van der Vaart as saying in October 2019 that he told Spurs chairman Levy to make a bid for Ziyech, who was then at Dutch giants Ajax.
TOTTENHAM WERE TOLD TO SIGN HAKIM ZIYECH BEFORE CHELSEA TRANSFER
The former Real Madrid star said at the time: “I really hope he goes to Tottenham Hotspur.
“I sent a message today to [Daniel] Levy, I said: Get Ziyech after this season. I am convinced that he becomes a sensation in London, and I also wish him that. I hope Spurs takes him and we will see.”
However, Tottenham did not heed Van der Vaart’s advice, and the 29-year-old, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, officially moved to Chelsea in the summer of 2020 for £33.3 million (Sky Sports).
Ziyech has not had the best of times at Chelsea and has not cemented a place in the starting lineup.
The attacker made 14 starts in the Premier League and five starts in the Champions League this season.
The Moroccan made 15 starts in the Premier League and three starts in the Champions League in 2020-21.
ATTACKER COULD BE SOLD
Well-known and well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported on Twitter that Chelsea are now open to selling Ziyech.
Chelsea and Tottenham are bitter rivals, and a transfer between the two London clubs does not happen often.
However, Chelsea will have new owners soon.
You just never know.
It will be interesting to see if Tottenham chairman Levy does finally heed Van der Vaart’s advice and makes a move.
