Chelsea’s anticipated starting lineup for today’s Premier League match against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Frank Lampard’s seventh chance? The temporary Chelsea manager will take command of his seventh match this afternoon against Bournemouth after the Blues had lost their first six with him in charge.
Chelsea: £89m star now set for ‘pay cut’ this summer at Stamford Bridge
The squad’s confidence appears to be at an all-time low right now. Lampard faces a difficult task in trying to raise morale after yet another dismal performance and result away at Arsenal in the previous week.
There hasn’t been much time for him to prepare his team for a very different, but equally challenging, game against Bournemouth. The Cherries have been in excellent form recently and appear to have avoided relegation. If they win tonight at the Vitality Stadium, they would pass Chelsea in the Premier League table.
So Chelsea will have another difficult battle as they attempt to play with dignity on the south coast. There might be several changes from the team that was defeated in north London on Tuesday night, with Lampard confirming no fresh injury worries ahead of the encounter.
Arrizabalaga will continue to play in goal. Edouard Mendy has returned to training and has been named on the bench, but there is no indication that Lampard would replace him with the Senegal international in the final matches of the season.
Lampard may be tempted to play with a back-three rather than a back-four like they did against Arsenal. The interim Chelsea manager may believe that a three-man defense will improve matters and that the defensive line might include Benoit Badiashile.
Badiashile was mentioned during Lampard’s news conference on Friday afternoon, and the head coach spoke highly of the Frenchman. Despite not playing any first-team football since Lampard took over, he maintained that he is “very close” to returning to action.
“Yeah, he’s very close,” Lampard stated of Badiashile. “He was unable to compete in the Champions League.” He played against Brighton in a tough contest for everyone. He’s almost there. In that region of the pitch, he competes with Thiago [Silva], Wesley [Fofana], and Trevoh [Chalobah]. He’s almost there. He’s doing well in training.”
He might play with Wesley Fofana and Thiago Silva, who are now Chelsea’s two strongest center-backs. Kalidou Koulibaly is still out with an injury.
As does Reece James, therefore Ruben Loftus-Cheek may fill in at right wing-back, a position he has played on several occasions this season. The Blues are anticipated to start Ben Chilwell on the left side.
We could see N’Golo Kante taking a break. The France international has just recently returned from a long-term injury and has played a lot of football recently, so Conor Gallagher may come in and partner Enzo Fernandez in the center of the pitch.
Should Kylian Mbappe leave PSG this summer ?
Noni Madueke impressed at the Emirates Stadium last week, scoring his first Chelsea goal, and he deserves another chance down on the south coast. Mykhailo Mudryk came off the bench for that game but impressed after going on, so perhaps the Ukrainian will finally start for Chelsea, alongside Kai Havertz, who might replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Kepa; Fofana, Silva, Badiashile; Loftus-Cheek, Gallagher, Fernandez, Chilwell; Madueke, Mudryk, and Havertz are the predicted starting XI (3-4-2-1).
