Sadio Mane may not be the ideal player at the right time as Chelsea looks to build a squad in the mold of Mauricio Pochettino, but the Blues will be busy in the transfer market this summer.
Although Chelsea already has a large roster, they do not intend to add any more players in the summer. The priority for the Blues will be to bring in a goalkeeper, a midfielder, and a forward for Mauricio Pochettino to work with as the club’s administration looks to correct recurring transitional issues.

The West London club has 32 players in the first team, so the former PSG and Spurs manager won’t be short of players to evaluate when he takes over as Chelsea’s new manager. A number that needs to be reduced as soon as possible after the Blues’ season’s second half necessitated accommodations to accommodate the number.
The sporting director Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, who will also be talking with Pochettino about the squad’s needs to propel the team up the table in 2023/24, will have a difficult task on their hands.
None of it has prevented Chelsea from being connected to a wide range of players given the club’s recent transfer market activities. One of the newest players to receive praise is Sadio Mane.

It’s less certain whether the 31-year-old meets Chelsea’s requirements this season. Victor Osimhen is of interest to the Blues, and Christopher Nkunku, who will join from RB Leipzig in the summer, has amassed 19 goals and seven assists in 33 appearances compared to Sadio Mane’s 12 goals and six assists in 37.
Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, Raheem Sterling, Hakim Ziyech, and Christian Pulisic are already at Chelsea’s disposal, and when Armando Broja regains his fitness, they will also have access to Christian Pulisic. It just does not make sense to seek Mane right now in terms of team building unless Pochettino has already identified him and the Blues can utilize players as makeweights in a trade.
The club will eventually lose money on Mane because, at the age of 31, he is unlikely to follow Chelsea’s current practice of signing young players to long-term contracts. He would offer Premier League experience, but as the transfer of Sterling has demonstrated, the right system must first be in place to take advantage of that.
Many people will have hopes that Pochettino can create his own Son Heung-min and Harry Kane tandem to solve Chelsea’s goal-scoring problems. To guarantee that partnerships can form in the smaller group that Pochettino favors, losing individuals from the team will need to be the top focus.

Many of Chelsea’s new additions haven’t yet made an impact, but Pochettino has a history of perseverance, as seen with Son, who struggled in the Premier League during his first season and gave his future some thought. A real striker would be more crucial in trying to recreate that connection with the impending signing of Nkunku.
It’s nearly impossible to consider adding more players to Chelsea unless they start to lose some of their current squad members for reasons unrelated to their real priorities.
