- Blues plagued by injuries this season
- Announce three more absentees
- Fans call for medical team to be sacked
WHAT HAPPENED?
The Blues offered an update on the club’s injury situation on Thursday, confirming Trevoh Chalobah, Carney Chukwuemeka and Robert Sanchez have all joined their lengthy injury list. All three players have picked up problems despite not having played over the international break. The news follows confirmation earlier this week that summer signing Romeo Lavia has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a thigh injury, leaving Chelsea fans irate at the injury situation.
WHAT THE FANS ARE SAYING
Chelsea fan @CFCMod called on action to be taken: “Do you know how insane it is that we have a goalkeeper getting injured back to back in one season? They need to sack the entire medical team, this is beyond normal.”
Another supporter Alex Goldberg could hardly believe the news: “NINE (9) Players on the latest injury report. I honestly give up with this medical team, this is beyond abnormal.”
And @CFCDaily wrote on X: “Launch an investigation!”
Meanwhile, supporter @CFCPys felt Mauricio Pochettino may be at fault, responding to the news with: “Maybe it’s his methods that are causing them?”
WHAT THE PUNDITS ARE SAYING
Chelsea writer Simon Phillips was also shocked by the news: “Three more added to Chelsea’s injury list today. When will anyone at the club be held accountable for this? They should be putting out a statement at this point, it’s beyond shocking.”
Meanwhile, Guardian reporter Jacob Steinberg had some sympathy for Pochettino: “Carney Chukwuemeka, Robert Sanchez and Trevoh Chalobah back on Chelsea’s injury list. Pochettino’s problems are never ending.”
And The Athletic‘s Simon Johnson had a wry take on the situation, adding: “The consistency of ‘Injured FC’ is remarkable.”
THE BIGGER PICTURE
Pochettino is obviously short of options once again for Chelsea’s next game against Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday. The Chelsea boss also told a pre-match press conference that Ben Chilwell could miss out with a “knock” while Enzo Fernandez is yet to return from international duty with Argentina.
WHAT NEXT FOR CHELSEA
Chelsea host Burnley at Stamford Bridge and will be aiming to maintain a four-match unbeaten run in all competitions. The Blues face a Burnley deep in relegation trouble but who enjoyed a rare 2-1 win over Brentford last time out in the Premier League.
