n Wednesday night, Real Madrid travel to Stamford Bridge to do battle with Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final. The two teams met in the same competition last season with the Blues emerging victorious before eventually lifting the trophy.

Chelsea go into see game after a humbling defeat to Brentford, as well as the sanctions imposed by the British Government on the club due to Roman Abramovich’s ownership. Meanwhile, Carlo Ancelotti will be on the Real Madrid bench after testing negative for COVID-19. This is the very beginning of our Chelsea vs Real Madrid live blog, as we bring you all the updates from this Wednesday evening meeting at Stamford Bridge.

Half time – Chelsea 1-2 Real Madrid

It’s been a frantic first half at Stamford Bridge with Karim Benzema bagging a three minute brace, before Havertz pulled one back just before the break. Vinicius is causing plenty of problems and also hit the bar early in the half.

Minute 42 – Benzema miss!

Vinicius picks up the ball on the left and looks to find Benzema steaming in front he right, a slip from Jorginho puts the ball in a perfect place for the Frenchman, but he puts his shot side from eight yards out.

Minute 40 – Havertz pulls one back

Just before the break, Chelsea are back in the game, as Havertz pulls one back. A lovely floated ball into the area from Jorginho, finds the German and he finishes past Courtois, who got a hand to it.

Minute 30 – Militao chance

A corner swung in from Kroos finds the head of Militao in the penalty area, but his effort is straight at Mendy. Chelsea living on the edge as Real Madrid run riot.

Minute 24 – REAL MADRID GOAL!!

It had to be him AGAIN! Benzema heads home his second goal in three minutes! Luka Modric swings in a ball from the right and this time the French forward gets on the end of it, while moving backwards and the ball floats past Mendy.

Minute 21 – REAL MADRID GOAL!!

It had to be him! Karim Benzema heads home the opener for Real Madrid! A wonderful assist from Vinicius who broke down the left and floated in a wonderful ball for the No.9 and his header beat Mendy and hit the back of the net.

Minute 10 – Vinicius hits the bar

Real Madrid win the ball in their own half and immediately go on the attack. A Benzema back heel finds Valverde and he feeds Vinicius who strikes the crossbar from just inside the box.

Minute 5 – Havertz chance

Havertz gets in behind Alaba and Militao but as he takes the ball into the box, his shot it fired over the bar.
