Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea interested in Manchester City forward

Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez seems to be a wanted commodity in the transfer market heading into the summer window.

The 31-year-old has been with the Cityzens since 2018 and has been a key part of the success that Pep Guardiola’s side have achieved during that time. However, his contract with the reigning champions of England expires in the summer of 2023.

It has led to speculations over his future at the Etihad Stadium. Now, Foot Mercato (h/t ESPN) is claiming that several top clubs across Europe such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing Mahrez in the summer transfer window.

Barça are in the market for a new wide player as they seek a replacement for Ousmane Dembele. The Frenchman, despite his recent upturn of form under Xavi Hernandez, is still expected to leave the club when his contract runs down at the end of the season.

A move for Leeds United’s Raphinha has been touted as a priority for the Blaugrana, but they are also keeping an eye on Mahrez’s situation and have already established contact with Manchester City to explore the possibility of a transfer.

However, they will face competition from arch-rivals Real Madrid, who have been monitoring his situation for quite some time now and could launch a move to sign him up.

Chelsea, too, have been credited with an interest in Mahrez, but signing him will be difficult for the Blues due to the sanctions placed by the UK Government on their owner, Roman Abramovich.

PSG, meanwhile, are on the lookout for a replacement for Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe, with Mahrez emerging as a target. However, there have been reports that they already have an agreement with Barça’s Dembele as well.

The 31-year-old is a quality operator who can add a lot of value to this Barcelona side. But, with competition for his signing stiff, a move for Raphinha, who would also be a much younger option, would be a better move for the Catalan giants.
